Paul McCartney on Digital Music

Former Beatle Paul McCartney recently spoke with the LA Times (Registration Required) on his breakup with long-time record label EMI and his decision to go with a fully-downloadable album via Starbucks' Hear Music.

Not many nice things to say about the state of the record industry in regards to digital music, either. McCartney says that the ipod and the growth of digital music -- and how these developments have impacted the marketing of music -- is the asteroid to the industry's dinosaur, except this time, the dinosaurs don't seem to notice the asteroid's already hit:

"...They're very confused, and they will admit it themselves: that this is a new world, and they're a little bit at a loss as to what to do. So they've got millions of dollars and X budget ... for them to come up with boring ways -- because they've been at it for so long -- to what they call 'market' it. And I find that all a bit disturbing..."
