If you're like me, trying to make sense of Twitter trends can be a bit daunting. The tools at Twitter Trends give me an idea of what's hot but not necessarily why. Enter What the Trend.
What the Trend not only tells you what's hot on Twitter but why, even going so far sometimes as to tell you what a hat trick is in hockey
The site lists top trends but under each listing is an explanation provided by a user for the trending. WTT's model is user-generated all the way (with some predictable results) and editing the blurb is a click away.
Clicking on the trend takes you to a page listing recent tweets on the trend topic, news and heck, even photos. Nice.
Maybe someday Twitter will integrate this into their platform - or maybe not. Still this is a fun resource to help provide insight into the why behind the trends.
