Today, Google unveiled its Google App Engine for building web applications and services limited to the first 10,000 developers.
Google App Engine offers startups and the development community many of the same platform components -- such as email APIs, user authentication, persistent storage, among others -- which power Google.

It will be interesting to see how adoption of Google's web services architecture fares against pay offerings like Force.com, Amazon Web Services (AWS), among others.
