Tracking Hot Search Trends: BMW Takes on Mercedes

Google's Trends allows you to monitor the Top 100 hot search trends over time and drill down into locations where concentrations of the search trend are higher. In addition to Hot Trends, you can enter any set of search terms to see how popular they are when compared with all Google searches.

For example, we thought we'd see how BMW and Mercedes stack up against each other in terms of Google searches. For the month of February 2007, BMW takes the checkered flag, with California and Washington, DC leading the way in terms of top regions.

Since it does not provide exact numbers on how often the phrase is searched, it is difficult to assess with a great deal of accuracy. Far from being a complete measure of overall popularity, the Google Trends tool still has relevance in assessing keyword popularity between regions (both within a country and between individual countries) which can be used for targeting site content or other communications.

Not to mention the fact that it is entertaining. And guess I should mention that since 2004, football has gained major yardage over baseball and in a head-to-head battle, Coke edges out Pepsi.
